School Meals

From September 2024 Edleston Primary has joined with a local group of schools to enable us to take over our school kitchen and provide all catering in house. We are very excited at this new venture. The current charge per paid meal is £2.75. Payment should be made online via School Gateway.

Mrs Goodall is our Catering Supervisor and she is helped by Mrs Kertolli and  Mrs Burgess.

NUT FREE SCHOOL

Children who suffer from nut allergies can develop a severe, potentially life-threatening allergic reaction.

If someone has a nut allergy it is not just eating nuts that can cause a severe reaction, just being touched on the skin or smelling the breath of someone who has had nuts or a product containing nuts can trigger anaphylactic shock (which can cause breathing and swallowing difficulties).

First aid staff in the school are trained to use the Epi-pens (an injection of adrenalin) which is required immediately if this happens.

We cannot have nuts in school in any form.

So please can we ask that you have no nut products in the lunch boxes or brought into the school as treats.

For example:

  • Peanut butter sandwiches
  • Chocolate spreads
  • Hazelnut/Nutella chocolate dips
  • Nutella
  • Cereal bars
  • Some granola bars
  • Cakes that contain nuts
  • Biscuits / Cookies that contain nuts
  • Peanut butter cakes
  • Some Asian food, including satay
  • Sauces that contain nuts
  • Chocolate coated peanuts
  • Pistachio nuts

This list is not exhaustive, so please check the packaging of products closely.

We appreciate that this is an additional thing to check and we know that you recognise the importance of it.

We do have to insist we are a nut free school. I know if this was your child you would expect that we all help, especially as it is a life-threatening condition.

Snacks

Children can bring in a piece of fruit or a healthy snack for break time such as a cereal bar if they wish or they can buy a healthy snack from our kitchen.  We have orange juice, apple juice, forest fruits, toast, bagels and a bacon bap on a Friday.   The children can also have a piece of fruit from school which is provided by the Government as part of The Healthy Schools Initiative. This is for Foundation/Key Stage 1 children only. The Government also provide children with free milk in school up until they reach their fifth birthday. Payments for snack are accepted online via School Gateway. Please ensure school always has an up to date email address for the person who will make online payments for your child.  If your child has snack please pay before 8am either in advance or on the day. Snacks are found using the payment section. Please ensure you do not order a school meal instead of snack as these are not free!

Children are not permitted to bring sweets, chocolates or fizzy drinks in any form to school this includes if you provide a packed lunch from home for a school trip.

Meet our fabulous lunchtime team.
